Avoid blocking of folic acid during pregnancy
According to an article published in the British journal of clinical pharmacology drugs that block folic acid increase the risk of infant abnormalities
Epidemiologists, gynecologists and obstetricians have made this conclusion after tests conducted between 1998 and 2007.
Researchers studied 84,832 newborns at Soroka Medical Center, Israel. They found out that medications that block folic acid during the first months of pregnancy increase the risk for development neural-tube defects, and can also cause congenital malformations.
Researchers encourage women going to become pregnant to consume dietary supplements containing folic acids or eat foods containing such acids.
Women can also use this type of acids during the first months of pregnancy. The study shows that exposure to drugs blocking folic acid during the first trimester of pregnancy doubles the risk of congenital malformations in the fetus.
The risk of neural tube defects are increased sixfold after exposure to these drugs.
