Irritable, angry, competitive and aggressive people suffer from cardiovascular diseases

A study by researchers at the United States National Institute on AgingĀ  revealed that such people suffer cantankerous thickening of arterial walls of the neck, a risk factor for heart attack and stroke.

The panel for this survey consisted of 5,614 Italians and Italian women, aged 14-94 years, living in Sardinia. They responded to personality tests to measure their level of irritability. In the second stage, the thickness of the arterial wall of the neck was examined by ultrasound.

Both data were then compared. The results of this study indicates that more angry and more competitive, particularly women, sahowed the risk of developing heart disease increased by 40%, compared with more friendly and calm people.

The study authors believe the findings may help identify intervention programs to help people manage their anger to express anger or by other means, greater respect for others.
