Saddlebags good for the heart
The fat on the buttocks, hips and thighs have a beneficial effect on heart health, says a team of researchers at the University of Oxford. Commonly called saddlebags they would protect the body from cardiovascular diseases and diabetes.
Having been immersed in the scientific literature related to the topic, the team concluded that the fat below the belt was not a bad thing. On the one hand, the accumulated fat around the hips helps capture harmful fatty acids circulating in the blood. On the other hand, these fats release adiponectin, a hormone which has beneficial effects in protecting arteries.
"Several studies have already shown that having a pear shaped body is better than having an apple shape, "says Konstantinos Manolopoulos, a British researcher. We are finally beginning to understand why."
In short, generous buttocks are a good for health, but only around thigh measured just below the buttocks and not exceeding 60 cm, as advised by the British team. In addition, fat acts more as a protection.
In addition, having the belly is not a good sign. The fat stored in the belly is much more mobile and can move to clog arteries. In addition, abdominal fat releases cytokines, molecules that promote diabetes and cardiovascular disease.
