Allergic to sperm: Hypersensitivity to plasma from seminal fluid
The couple discovered this allergy during their wedding night, when husband and wife have had unprotected sex for the first time.
The girl then felt internal pain, "as if I was burned and put the needle inside the abdomen. It was extremely painful."
First, doctors were baffled by this unknown pain. Then they diagnosed a hypersensitivity to plasma from seminal fluid, which can actually cause heartburn and pain similar to a sting.
"The body recognizes the seed as a foreign protein similar to pollen or peanuts. If you are allergic to this protein, the body gives an inflammatory response."
In the case of semen allergy, desensitization therapy was developed by doctors at Cincinnati (United States) but it does not necessarily work for all couples. If the newlyweds want children, they will probably (in worst cases) start an adoption procedure.
