Over 50% of normal weight women want to lose weight, according to a survey by the National Cancer Institute. The practice of a restrictive diet to lose weight is very common. The benefits of these schemes, often practiced in the wild, drawing on public works or advice of friends, are not always obvious.

Diets can be multiple, sugar free, fat free, or without one or the other, rich in protein, and even globally restrictive. The 15 different types of diet plans have been reviewed. It's been demonstrated that protein intake exceeds the recommended dietary in more than 80% of these plans. The average requirement for calcium is not covered for 23% of them. For more than 50%, sodium intake exceed the limits recommended by WHO. Finally, three out of four diets lead to insufficient fiber intake. Seems like the risks are not negligible when these schemes rely on unbalanced eating habits and lack of food diversity.

There are the risks of a somatic loss of muscle and bone, liver inflammation, renal failure, especially with the protein diet. Wrong diet also involves profound changes in energy metabolism. According to researchers, this leads to reducing expenses and making the fat to regain weight. The changes can also be psychological. Depression and loss of self-esteem are common effects of repeated failures of dieting. Thus the regular physical activity is strongly recommended.
