An average serving of popcorn along with a soda sold in the first cinema circuit of the U.S., Regal, contains not less than 1610 calories (more than three Big Mac hamburgers) and 60 grams of saturated fat, according to a study by the Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI).

Not to mention the kind of liquid butter which Americans like to pour over their popcorn, which adds 130 calories in each teaspoonful.

The second cinema circuit in the country, CMA, is a little better, but only because their portions are smaller. Popcorn has 1030 calories and 57 grams of saturated fat, which is to eat 500 grams of pork ribs topped with a scoop of ice cream.

Saturated fats, which promote heart disease, are attributable to the oil used to prepare the popcorn, mainly coconut oil, says the CSPI.

Sodas distributed in U.S. theaters are also stigmatized by the study.

At Regal, the smallest soda has 300 calories and the largest (more than a liter and a half) - 500 calories and the equivalent of 33 teaspoons of sugar.

The candy, despite their small containers, are little more healthy. A packet of 225 grams of small chocolate-colored tablets contain 1160 calories and 35 grams of saturated fat. That is to eat a 500 gram steak and potatoes covered with butter.
