Cancer: a study returns on fruits and vegetables

Everyone has heard that to be healthy we must eat five fruit and vegetables per day, yet it now appears that contrary to what was previously thought, these eating habits are not sufficient to reduce the risk of cancer.

Published last week, a European survey on 500.000 persons showed that eating fruits and vegetables do not play a role that important in preventing cancer.

All aged 45 to 65, participants were monitored for nine years more for their diet than for their physical health and it was found that those who ate lots of fruits and vegetables had about as much chance of getting cancer than those who consumed little.

Obviously, this is not to ban fruit and vegetables and to rush on fatty foods and sweets, as if the fruits and vegetables have a low impact on cancer, they have a vital role in preventing cardiovascular diseases.
