New smoking-related cancers
The list is already impressive, cancer induced by tobacco never stops growing.
After cancer of the oral cavity, oropharynx, nasopharynx, hypopharynx, esophagus, stomach, liver, pancreas, nasal cavity, paranasal sinuses, larynx, lung of the cervix, bladder, kidney, ureter and bone marrow, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) has added the malignant tumors of the ovary, colon and rectum.
World Health Organization (WHO) has conducted an evaluation of several carcinogens related to personal habits and household exposures. Among them, smoking is the leading cause of cancer worldwide and more than one billion people are smokers today.
The working group, composed of thirty experts from ten countries, also indicated that "smoking can also be a cause of breast cancer" and even "a causal link between parental smoking and cancer in children."
Four recent studies have shown that children born to parents who smoke have a significantly higher risk of developing hepatoblastoma, a rare tumor of the liver that occurs at age of 18-24 months.
Lung cancer is also caused by passive smoking. And there is now a number of cases showing a link between smoking and cancer of the larynx and pharynx.
