HEALTH - From the spring ...

The EU countries have decided on Thursday to ban from next spring production and marketing of baby bottles containing bisphenol A, a controversial chemical used in plastics manufacturing food, announced the European Commission.

The experts from countries of the European Union who met Thursday afternoon, "reached (an agreement) by a qualified majority on a proposal from the European Commission" to ban bisphenol A in baby bottles, the EU executive said in a statement.

The production of these bottles will be prohibited from 1 March 2011, and their marketing and import from 1 June.

Bisphenol A is also banned in Canada, Australia and several U.S. states.
