Denmark allows heroin under medical supervision
After Switzerland, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom and more limited in Spain, Denmark allows, in turn, controlled distribution of heroin under medical supervision.
It all started in Switzerland in 1994, recalls "International Medicine". Contrary to the concerns of European specialists in the fight against drugs, this protocol quickly gave excellent results.
Denmark took an early interest in this, but a clinic dispensing free heroin has opened its doors in Copenhagen on 22 February. The program is for addicts in whom all attempts to quit methadone have failed. This concerns 1% of addicts in the Kingdom, between 300 and 400 people. The heroin addicts must first attend a further course of methadone treatment for 14 days so that quantity of heroin prescribed could be measured.
Then they will visit the center twice a day, seven days a week to receive a totally pure heroin, bought in Switzerland. The drug, for their part, complain that injections are mandatory performed in the center, for obvious security reasons.
Those responsible for the establishment know that the beginning is difficult, but they believe in the success of the company. "These people are resistant to treatment and lab coats. It provides, however, gradually attracting addicts who can meet here and find a refuge they lack for feeding and caring for various activities to give more meaning to their lives, " a Belgian newspaper cited.
